JCU and PictureAustralia

JCU case study

Based in tropical Queensland James Cook University (JCU) has developed rapidly over the past thirty years to become a centre of teaching and research excellence, and is now one of Queensland's premier universities.

JCU has campuses hundreds of kilometres apart - in Cairns, Townsville and Mackay as well as specialist research, teaching and learning sites throughout Queensland and northern Australia, making on-line sharing of information a key to JCU's success.

As curators of a comprehensive collection of images representing life in Queensland over the years JCU wanted to make this valuable resource available to researchers and students, as well as the wider community.

Key to reaching a wider audience was to publish the collection to be compatible with PictureAustralia, which is a central catalogue of images from cultural organisations around the country.

To achieve this, JCU chose Canto Cumulus and engaged AIMTec to customise it to their very specific requirements.
